Eternal Life

What really is Eternal Life?

My wife's grandfather passed away yesterday. Thank you for everyone’s support. IT has been wonderful.

During a nice chat I had with her Grandmother, the subject of eternal life came up. Grandmother says that we are all in eternal life. It is eternal, so it never has a beginning nor an end. We are all in it and will continue in it even after we die.

Is this really the case?

Let's look at some verses from the bible to compare:

Matt 19:16-19

16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good[a] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good?[b] No one is good but One, that is, God.[c] But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’[d] and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”[e]

Here it clearly states that to enter into LIFE you must keep His commandments. Does that sound like we are all in Eternal Life right now?

Luke 10:25-28

25 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’[a] and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”[b]28 And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

Again we have someone asking Christ about Eternal Life. He answers that we should do this and you will live.

I think it is clear that we do not possess Eternal Life unless we follow the commandments. If you are not following Christ, you do not possess Eternal Life.

Meditate on that and let me know what you think.

Your brother in Christ,
